History

Surandai was one of the substations of Sendamaram Parish. There was small Christian community from 19 century onwards. They grew in very big number. At present Surandai became business centre. It is since, it is provided with transport facilities. Villagers in and around the place come here for business and work. Its development was very fast. It was felt that Uthumalai being big parish, a single priest could not satisfy the spiritual need of people. So Surandai was erected as new parish on 1994. Many of the substations of Uthumalai were attached to Surandai parish. First Parish Priest was Fr. Arockiasamy. As a pioneer he has done marvelous work. He became one with the people. He lived for their upliftment. He concentrated on female literary for that reason he upgraded both the Mariathaipuram and Vadiur School. Surandai is a small pilgrim centre of St. Antony of Paduva. Many people come here to petition their prayer to send St. Antony of Paduva. The status of the people is economically poor.

Succession of the Priests:

  • Fr. Arockiasamy
  • Fr. Antony Xavier
  • Fr. Joseph Johnson
  • Fr. Sahaya Chinnappan
  • Fr. Deverajan
  • Fr. Chacko Varghese
Earthly riches are like the reed. Its roots are sunk in the swamp, and its exterior is fair to behold; but inside it is hollow. If a man leans on such a reed, it will snap off and pierce his soul.
